National Association of Broadcasters Radio Show, Dallas, TX – September 19, 2012 – iBiquity Digital Corporation, the developer of digital HD Radio Technology for AM and FM audio and data broadcasting, today announced expanded support for HD Radio Technology from a wide array of leading automakers.
The initial rollout of HD Radio Technology with its original features (Digital Sound Quality, HD2/HD3 Channels, and (PSD) Program Service Data) is now firmly established, and many automakers are now focused on launching HD Radio Advanced Features like iTunes Tagging, Artist Experience and Digital Traffic and Data. iTunes® Tagging popularity has exploded as over 20 automotive brands have launched or will offer the feature in upcoming months. Artist Experience, which brings visuals like album cover art to radio screens, is off to an impressive start. VW, Chevrolet, Buick and GMC are the first to offer the feature, and many additional automakers are hot on their heels with plans to offer the technology in the coming months. Car manufacturers are also focusing on the new Digital Traffic and Data services offered through HD Radio broadcasts. The future is bright for Digital Traffic, with multiple automakers supporting these new features and services.
“Our automotive partners are seeing increased demand from consumers for HD Radio Technology in their new vehicles,” said Bob Struble, iBiquity Digital President and CEO. “28 automakers are now offering HD Radio Technology in their vehicles, including 6 new brands this year alone. Importantly, we see an auto industry committed to offering consumers many new advanced features with HD Radio Technology. Automakers recognize the tremendous value that HD Radio Technology offers drivers and are including the new capabilities on more vehicles and in more radios then ever before. OEMs are introducing the latest features like iTunes Tagging, Artist Experience and soon we’ll see the first OEM implementations of HD Radio digital traffic and data services. We are excited to work with radio broadcasters to meet the growing demand for new HD Radio features.”
